Ever wanted to know the ancient’s secrets for anti-aging? Ever wanted to know the ancient’s secrets for anti-aging?

We picked through and personally tested some of the top organic skin care brands that use Ayurvedic herbs as a primary component of their recipes, and here’s our top 3:

  1. Radiance Face Cream by Vedic Botanicals

We picked Radiance as our number one because there is SO much happening in this little jar.  For one, half of the total recipe is pure Aloe Vera Gel.  If you’re even remotely familiar with how good aloe vera is for your skin, you’re already picking up what we’re putting down.  Aloe vera helps the skin stay healthy, clear, young, and glowing- not to mention it adds a delicious lightness to the overall mix.  Radiance also has ashwaganda in it, which is an anti-oxidant, anti-aging powerhouse in Ayurvedic herbal medicine.  Paired with the ashwaganda is another absolute herbal bombshell- black cumin seed, used for centuries in beauty regimens by the elite from Egypt to India and everywhere in between.  Black cumin seed, along with the rose hip seed oil, help to even the skin tone, diminishing age spots or unevenness, healing rosacea and acne scars.  There’s also wheat germ seed oil, which has a natural SPF (Sun protection Factor) value of about 20, giving your skin protection from the sun.  The essential oils: manuka, palma rosa, and niaouli also assist with anti-aging and break-out prevention.  This face cream covers ALL your bases, and at $36.97 for 2 oz it won’t break your bank.

The cons: It IS perishable so consider putting it in your fridge if you plan to use it sparingly.

  1. Youthful Skin by VPK

Youthful Skin by VPK (Vata, Pitta, Kapha- the 3 Ayurvedic elements) is our number 2 because of its absolutely delicious feel on our skin and because just like Radiance, there are some real herbal powerhouses in this little jar. The herbs in Youthful Skin support healthy cellular reproduction, curb wrinkling, and the gotu kola promotes collagen synthesis.  It also has macadamia seed oil as one of the primary bases, which is chalk-full of omega 3s, and helps keep the nerves in your skin tissues healthy.  The sandalwood and rosemary in this cream help to diminish blotchy-ness and redness, giving skin an overall youthful glow.  Another true gem in this cream is the Indian Madder root, which helps to prevent breakouts, heal irritations, and is often thought to aid in the prevention of rosacea!   This jar rings in at $27.47 and just under 2 oz, giving you great value for your buck.

The cons: No SPF (sun protection factor) value.

  1. Ayurvedic Face Care Kit by Evanhealy

Our #4 pick is a bit different, because it’s a kit rather than one product.  We had a lot of fun using the different products; they come in such cute little packages, perfect for trial, travel, and feeling extra indulgent during your self-care routines.  The individual products are definitely quality, and get the job done.  However, the herbal formulas for each of these products are pretty simplistic.  Evanhealy chose some of Ayurveda’s most prized herbs to use, so while they’re simple, they’re also solid.  When using all the products, you’re treating your skin to Immortelle, Sandalwood, and Jasmine- which are anti-aging skin treats indeed!  The kit is a really good way to treat yourself to some high-quality products with herbal goodness for a price that certainly pleases: $39.95.

The cons: Just like Balance, these products aren’t as balanced as Radiance and Youthful Skin.  The Tulsi HydroSoul for instance, isn’t good for sensitive skin types, or for people who naturally have more redness in their face. The coconut cream cleanser could prove to be too heavy for oily skin types.

Bonus!  We haven't tried Balance ourselves, but we love it's herbal blend!

  1. Balance Moisturizer by Shankara

Balance by Shankara is ringing in at our #3- the essential oil and herbal extracts blend in this moisturizer had us drooling!   Arjun, Spikenard, Rosehips, Everlasting, Sarsparilla, Gotu Kola, Amla, Neem, and Ashwaganda,- ohhhh Lawdy!  Not only are some of these herbs quite rare and expensive to get, but the blend is a sublime mix of both stimulating to the skin while being soothing- ensuring that redness, blotchiness, and breakouts are nonexistent.  This blend, like those in the #1 and #2 positions, has rejuvenative qualities, promoting healthy cellular reproduction, fading scars, and helping to maintain an even skin tone.  This product rings in at $68 for just under 2 oz, making it more expensive than the other two, though the price is 100% justified when you look at the ingredient line up.

The cons: While the herbal line up in this product was probably our favorite, there’s also green tea extract in this blend.  Green Tea extract, while good for the skin, can be aggravating to the nerves in the skin.  Radiance and Youthful skin contain herbs that help to nourish the nervous system, while Balance might prove to be somewhat agitating.
